So my younger brother is coming to visit for a week before starting grad school, and I'm trying to come up with a solid dining itinerary. He's a devout meat-eater who prefers if he knows most of the ingredients on the menu, but has no problem with spicy. The thing he finds most impressive about NY is the plethora of great beer menus. I'm vegetarian but will eat just about anything that fits that requirement (though I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms or winter squash, i.e. the veg mainstays). Friends may be joining us various nights, but they're all less picky than we are.
I'm also aiming for nothing too stiff/formal and between $30 to 40 per person plus drinks.
Also, I live in Tribeca, so nothing too far uptown.
Right now these are my current thoughts:
Apizz - Sat
Yerba Buena Perry - Sun
Balaboosta - Mon
Fat Radish - Tues
Kin Shop - Wed
ABC Kitchen - Th
Gyu Kaku - Fri
Right now I'm mostly concerned about Balaboosta (read about teeny portions and just average food), but would also appreciate thoughts on the other items up there. If I were to switch it, I'm thinking solid pizza place, though I don't want anything where we need to wait an hour, and I'm kinda at a loss.
Also, how do people feel about Malialino and Lupa v. Apizz? I love the food at Apizz, but for sibling dinner prefer less romantic. I've found Locanda Verde to be eh for dinner.
And Fat Radish v. The Dutch? They're both high on my to-try list.
