Dining while a hurricane bears down on us

Irene is on the way. People are stocking up on bottled water and eating down their freezers in anticipation of downed trees and massive power outages. John and I have a long planned dinner with friends in Ambler at eight pm on saturday and John is thinking we will have to cancel. What are my fellow chowhounds in the Philly area doing about Irene? Ignoring her? Battening down the hatches? My hair stylist has a gas oven and is planning on cooking a nice roast on sunday and stocking up on some beer and wine so she will be snug even if the lights go out.
If it was up to me I would keep the reservation unless the forecast changes a lot. But John says it's a no-go because his mom will most likely not let him leave the house saturday night.
