New Dining Finds/Marco's Closing

This message is a followup to Sylvia's earlier post regarding new dining finds. My girlfriends and I have a monthly "Girl's Night Out" and tonight we tried Lauletta's Grille on South 11th Street based on Sylvia's earlier post. We enjoyed it very much. The small (maybe 35 seat) dining room is a cute converted sandwich shop, and the food was delicious with one glaring exception. It seems the chef has a heavy hand with the salt and one entree we ordered, seared tuna on a white bean puree, the bean puree had either cooked down too far or was GROSSLY oversalted, but was inedibly salty and spoiled all the food it touched (i.e. the tuna filets). The waitress was kind enough to remove it from our check when we explained why we hadn't eaten it, and all was well. I would definitely try this place again, and perhaps tell the staff I am on a low-salt diet in the hope of not having any additional salt added to the otherwise very tasty and very adequately salted food. Our other appetizers and entrees were mostly fine. The place is very pleasant, clean, good music playing (Gypsy Kings to eat by), and the service very nice. Very reasonable prices as well. This place definitely has Chowhound potential!

The other bit of news is that I have heard (only rumor at this point) is that Marco's on Vine has CLOSED! Quelle horreur! Apparently they could not compete with the Market Street/Stephen Starr crowd and have shuttered their doors for good. This is a damn shame because Marco's was a wonderful restaurant run by genuine folks that deserved to do well. Alas, another casualty in the Philly restaurant wars...
