Recent dining experiences good and bad.

What a sad evening the other night. Granted, Bacco is advertising 10 dollar entrees during the week so I went before a movie one night and found the whole exprience to be a crushing disappointment. Overly strong flavor of garlic in the beef carpaccio which was too thick to be served as carpaccio. Naturally, while the entrees were reasonable the wine was pricey. Grocery store penne pasta, cheap cheeses, and rubbery, dried out chicken. I must say that even the chain BRAVO! serves better quality food.
Gautreau's lost its top chef and I have no idea where he went but it is not what it used to be. I'm devastated as it was one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Something must be done. My last dinner there was terribly mediocre. The fish was oily and tasted old and the special lobster appetizer was completely flavorless. Our banana split dessert, however, was extraordinarily good and someone had the filet which was wonderful.
Had lunch at Commander's Palace which was delightful and admittedly, delicious. I usually disparage the place but the pecan encrusted fish was excellent as was the bread pudding. Dinner at Galatoires fantastic but then again, I know what I am getting and am never upset. Finally, my dinner at Mat and Naddie's could not have been better. I had not been there in months and was so pleased that the high quality had not wavered.
