Dining with Andre

While feverishly pedalling through the streets of South Pasadena on the infamous "saturday ride" several weeks ago, I managed to lift my head a few times (I know, slacker!)to glance at a view other than a wheel. On my left sat a charming little abode with a sign posted, "Dining with Andre". Based on the fact that my mom loves the film and hey - how can once pass up a new restaurant experience - I thought I would take her with me to try it out.

I brought both wine and champagne, as I had called ahead to find out about their wine list. They do not serve wine, but do encourage it and do not charge corkage.

Upon the suggestion of the woman who runs the restuarant (with her husband, Andre) we started with a delightful puff pastry filled with cheese and mushrooms, perfectly sauteed (not with too much butter, like so many places do). We also had a tomoto tart that was quite amazing.

We were encouraged to skip salads (which I appreciated) and proceed to the main course. We shared a roasted chicken and a filet. Both were exquisite. For desert, we shared a fruit tart and another pastry. The entire bill was about 60.00, which I thought was quite reasonable. While I have heard bad reviews for lunch - I was quite impressed. Everything tasted fresh and the atmosphere was so lovely!
