Just had yet another disappointing diner lunch, this one @ the New Colony V Diner on Stony Hill Rd. in Bethel.
Servers were great--friendly, efficient.
But the lettuce in my Greek Salad was old and brown; and the tomatoes tasted like tomatoes taste in February (feta and stuffed grape leaves and dressing and especially pita were delicious--so I was especially sad that the lettuce and tomatoes, which should be the easy part, were such downers).
And the tapioca pudding was bad--really rubbery and a little too sweet, but the main problem was that terrible texture.
It may be that I ordered wrong (Greek Salad nosed out a BLT, as I perused the long menu--BLT might have been perfect; and in this era of packaged cut-up greens, salad may never be a good pick--I also wondered about but passed on a moussaka-stuffed omelet--who knows, could have been great--or not!).
But my question really is a larger one--and one I've asked before. I love diners. My husband grouchily says they're all mediocre. I would love to be steered to a great diner in these parts and prove him wrong. Look forward to your help in this important culinary and marital matter!
