Diner in the Standard Hotel Downtown - Quick review

jaydee | Feb 20, 2006 07:32 PM

I have been taking business lunches in the small diner/restaurant at the Standard Hotel downtown. I like the menu more than Daily Grill across the street (it is more limited) and the sandwiches, burgers are pretty decent. I haven't had the fries recently until today - I have always thought the fries were good (from noshing on them at the rooftop bar)- but they have improved. There's some kind of flaky coating that is not too much a la burger king fries v 2.0 but like a faint tempura batter. my description does it no justice, but the fries are delish. my steak recently was overdone, and not wanting to hold up my client, i opted not to complain. my waiter did notice the overcooked steak and made comment - but did not offer to discount the meal or anything, oh well. i would return not for the steak but a burger and fries - yum.

its surprisingly slow on weekends too, so i usually hit breakfast when in a pinch.
