DINER 24/7 in chelsea fish tacos

the quick verdict is a resounding "eh." so the search for great fish tacos will have to carry on.

i ordered the fish taco dish for lunch today. you get two on an oversized and overly cutie patootie white fish plate. and that is it. no sides. it was mahi mahi steamed or grilled hard to tell it was not good fish and it was flaky like tuna out of a can. the "taco" itself was suspect, same style as the TACO BELL double taco, fish in a hard corn shell (jinkees), surrounded by some sticky bean dip out of a jar stuff and all enveloped in a soft flour tortilla. you get an artistic teeny tiny drop of guac, crema and salsa on the plate too. not enough for one let alone two tacos.

oh kaaay. prices was $15 w/ a cranberry-seltzer to drink and that is w/o the tip. same prices as dinner. BENNYS BURRITOS has mahi mahi on occasion that is half that price and marginally better just south and around the corner on greenwich.

so caveat emptor DINER 24/7 seems to be more about style than food. decor is minimal slick, staff is dressed in faux western wear and overly hovering so far. maybe go for drinks?

otherwise, for neighbors only ---> i may use it as a late night alternative to the 14th st/8th ave deli on occasion (as long as it lasts which i bet is not long haha). i'm not inclined to explore the menu any further. there was a fried chicken dish that caught my eye but upon closer inspection it was cornish hen (!) so i'll stick with MAROONS or POPEYES on 14th for that.
