Haven't found an active DineLA thread this go around.
I had lunch Thursday at Emporium Thai on Westwood. I considered Fundamental LA but there was a long line to order and all tables were filled. I ordered the morning glory salad and the crispy pork with long beans. The morning glory salad is a great dish -- lightly battered deep-fried greens and chopped shrimp in a light sweetish sauce. I ordered the entree 6 on a scale of 10 (owner told me 3 was what they termed moderately spicy) and it had good heat. Thick lardons of deep-fried pork belly were tasty and some unctuous, but some too hard to chew without long effort. A huge, tasty lunch for $15++.
For Friday lunch I went to Chinois. Chinese chicken salad to start -- I shook this up a little by asking for hot chili oil, and a few drops really helped invigorate the dish. The szechwan beef for my entree and this is just a great dish with an amazing sauce. For dessert the lemon tart, which was like a lemon creme brûlée in a crisp tart shell with a raspberry sauce and some berries -- refreshing and delicious. Service was exemplary. Spending over $30 for a lunch is a splurge for me, but I'll probably be back again this coming week.
