Dim sum sauce help

Reno finally has a decent place to eat dim sum but they don't offer the same sauces I've seen at dim sum restaurants in places like San Francisco and Monterey Park. I went into an Asian grocery store and found one that I've seen before, a mixture of soy bean paste and hot oil. Can expert dim sum eaters give me a clue as to what other sauces I should be looking for next time I go into the Asian grocery store? They have like a bazillion sauces and sometimes only the ingredients are in English.
