Dim sum at NBC, Monterey Park

Yvonne | Oct 14, 200211:59 PM     2

I got together with a group of friends on Sunday at NBC in Monterey Park as part of my dim sum reconnaissance. They have an amazing variety of dishes but I thought the quality varied widely. Stay away from the rice noodle rolls - the noodles were gloppy and mushy. I enjoyed the fried shrimp paste on sugar cane served with sweet mayonnaise and the spinach dumplings. Service was friendly and efficient, and even though we occupied a table of 8 for over 2 hours, we never felt rushed to leave. Bill came to $72 before tip for 8 people.

Based on my 1 visit each to Ocean Star, NBC, and ABC, I'd place NBC and Ocean Star in a tie. NBC has a tiny lead in the variety and uniqueness of dishes, but Ocean Star was more consistent. Next on my list of must-tries are 888 and Empress Pavilion.
