dim sum for one: a lonesome and ill advised idea?

I know that Chinese dim sum is best done as a group activity, but what should a single diner who enjoys dim sum do to enjoy a wide array of delicious dim sum choices without having to consume four or five of the same item per order? Are there dim sum places here that serve buffet style where you can select single morsels, or where you can order that way? If there is such a place, I'd be happy to know about it.
