I am afraid to try dim sum because I am allergic to shellfish. In addition to not being able to recognize the food since I've never had it, I know that there is sometimes a language barrier at good authentic restaurants and I might not be able to rely on the servers to tell me what I shouldn't eat.
With me being completely unfamiliar with the food, how hard would it be to avoid items containing shellfish?
Also, what are some non-shellfish dishes you'd recommend for a first-timer?
Just to clarify, shellfish=lobster, crab, shrimp, and sea urchin.
Scallops, clams, mussels, squid, octopus, and fish are all okay.
