dim sum

djk | Jun 4, 2005 03:57 PM

there are a few mentions for golden bridge if you scroll down to may and march but i hadn't read them till now. just happened in today for dim sum with a chinese friend who goes there often. all very tasty with a few outstanding combinations and several classics that are good enough to count on if not fabulous. it's the old silver palace space on bowery just below canal. we got there before 11:30 which seemed key - big crowds gathered by noon waiting for their number to be called. lovely live shrimp, had the whitefish "fries', great clams in black bean sauce but several really interesting vegetable dumplings that were either combined with shrimp or fish or sometimes just veggies beautifully seasoned. i wish i could be more articulate about the sauce and seasoning - but since i can't, i will say that it was delicious and unique. the only bummer (and i noticed another poster mentioned this), several dishes were cold. still tasty but clearly not meant to be eaten that way. and the snow pea leaves were too long and full of stems, hard to eat and a bit rangey. still and all - good dim sum often being hard to find in manhattan, this is worth stopping into. two extra large rooms, all asian faces and nice dim sum - particularly if you get the cart as it begins its journey....
