diggin' falafel

Glenn | Jul 27, 2002 12:32 AM

Hi all,

Last year at the urging of fellow chowpuppies on a thread posted here, my family and I checked out a place called Falafel's or Falafel's Drive In on the other side of the freeway from the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose area. A search of previous posts failed to turn it up for me, but hey, I'm still looking for courage like one of Dorothy's Yellow Cement Road co-horts...........

After waiting in line for a few minutes, the look of the crowd indicated that the food was worth waiting for. Hot dang Sam. I wasn't disappointed. The hot sauce really made it for me as I never had it on a falafel before. Wanna go back over and over again, but San Jose is not on my "most traveled" list.

So, my questions to all of you is.............

A) Anybody got a surefire winner for great falafel in the East Bay/ (preferably) San Leandro area at some kinda ramshackle stand/gastronomic retreat?

OR

B)Anyone know of where and from whom to purchase a great highly spiced falafel mix from, so as to make some at home?

My wife cooked up some "Fantastic" brand mix tonight, and to me it was far from fantastic. Did the manufacturer leave his tastebuds at home next to his false teeth?

Regards and tanx in advance.
Glenn

And P.S............ Thanks for the "Ojo de Agua" recommendation of their Oakland branch #2 truck on International Blvd. near the San Leandro border across from the old Lloyd Wise dealership (107th Ave I believe). Best damn torta I ever ett........
