I have died and gone to Penang heaven (DFW)

Although I was extremely skeptical I decided to make the trek up to Frisco. Boy was I glad!

The food is very authentic. Penang Restaurant is like Mecca for Malaysians in DFW. 95% of the tables were full of malaysians.

They have an open kitchen with 4-5 chefs (all malaysians). The roti canai was fantastic and made by hand. I have to say that it is the best I've had in the US - even better than the Nyonya/Baba restaurant in NYC.

Other dishes I tried -
Belachan Kangkung - could use more belachan (stinky shrimp paste). was a little oily as well.

Rendang - excellent . good edible meat. the curry should have been a little drier but the curry sauce was so good i didn't care.

Hainanese Chicken rice - just like it's done in Malaysia though it could comewith a bowl of chicken broth like they do in Msia.

Cha Kwey Teow - excellent noodle dish. wasn't oily at all and had all the ingredients except for cockles (which tastes like chewy blood so i don't mind that they've omitted it).

Ice Kachang - it's like a large snow cone. Shaved ice with palm seeds, jelly, corn, rose syrup and red beans. Yum... felt like a kid again when i ate this.

I am really keen to go back there.

Cheryl
