This is the new Indian restaurant that's moved into the space where Morocco Star used to be, and a series of restaurants before that. They opened today, with balloons and Christmas lights all over the frontage.
Simple, tasteful decorations inside with dark red the main color, with matching tablecloths on the tables (not paper place mats). When I got there at 6:30 three of the ca. dozen tables were taken, but after 7:00 people were arriving in bunches, and when I left, there were nine occupied. Service prompt, food likewise. As the door opens directly into the cold and there are large picture windows, the place was noticeably chilly but I didn't actually need to put my coat back on.
Visiting a new Indian, my first meal there is usually the tandoori mixed grill. Dhaka's was done competently but nothing special. Bread is good, the naan quite tasty; pillaw rice rather watery, though the flavor is pleasant. Basic dal and cabbage provided. Reminds me of my first New York Indian restaurants back in the '70s.
Overall, Dhaka will do when I really want some Indian food not far from my door, but it's toward the bottom of my list of neighborhood places. Hope it improves as they settle in, and maybe I'll find the dish(es) that move it up my list.
