According to statistics from the 2000 US Census, the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area has the *fourth* largest Vietnamese population in the United States (behind LA, SF, and Houston). We have about three times as many Vietnamese as Chicago. Four times as many as New York City.
From the numbers, I would assume that there's some great Vietnamese food to be had in DFW. But, apart from a few restaurants that cater mostly to American customers, I rarely hear about Vietnamese places.
I don't know much about the local Vietnamese scene. Moreover, I don't know much about Vietnamese cuisine in general. But I'd like to learn a lot more about both. Any tips for me? Restaurants I should try (with dish recommendations, if they have strengths)? Suggested reading?
