DFW: S&D Oyster Company

Last week we were in the mood for some straightforward seafood and decided to go to S&D Oyster Company on McKinney. Now we normally go to Pappadeux’s for seafood, but we weren’t in the mood for a lot of food. I think the portion sizes at Pappadeux’s are big.

Those of us who have been around for awhile remember when there was not much of a choice for seafood in Dallas other than Vincent’s until S&D opened in the 70’s. Needles to say, the food and the place haven’t changed much, which is a good thing, not a bad thing. For appetizers, we had excellent gulf oysters on the half shell with some good, cold Shiner Bock. The entrees were fried oysters (hey, I’m an oyster fool!) with creole rice and boiled shrimp. Everything was good and the service was prompt, just what you would expect from a Texas-like fish house.
