[DFW] Lee's Catfish

simply_victoria | Feb 28, 2005 11:50 AM

Ok, every day when I drive home from work, I am stuck in traffic at 75 @ Beltline waiting for the stoplight to turn. My mind starts to wander, and I invariably stare out the car window at the little strip mall to my right. Over time, I have become fixated with two establishments there, Pizza Villa and Lee's Catfish. Don't ask me why. They just intrigue me.

This Sunday, after a hard day of shopping on a very empty stomach, I actually decided it was high time I ventured out and into one of these places. Lee's Catfish won because I could actually get a parking space in front of it, and I'm so glad I did.

Honestly, the interior is a little daunting, but the melt in your mouth fried catfish more then makes up for it. The english menu on the wall really only offers 3 things, whole friend catfish, hot and spicy catfish, and catfish in black bean sauce. I decided to go simple and get only 1 whole fried fish and some hushpuppies.

When they say whole catfish they mean whole catfish. There is no head, but you get everything from the neck to the tail. I practically ate the fish in record time. The meat just fell off the bone!! I brought home with me a little bit of their home made chili sauce, delicious. You can buy bottles of it and I just might have to invest.

The hush puppies were ok. I wish I had stuck to their suggestion of a side of slaw.

There was a rather large chinese menu written above the counter. For the time being, I will experiment with the different kinds of catfish and work my way to the more experimental.

Overall, glad I actually got out the car.
