Visiting Dallas on business. Went to Big Al's Barbecue tonight and was impressed. I ordered the dinner plate with beef ribs; I chose corn on the cob and baked beans as my sides. The portions were huge, and the meal came with mashed potatoes and two slices of warm bread (I guess that's what you folks call Texas toast). The ribs were delicious, meat falling off the bone and well cooked, which is how I like it. Very tender. Beans were also good.
Best part: I called at 7:45, placed a take-out order, and said I'd be there at 8. The hotel valet couldn't find my keys, so I didn't get to Big Al's until 8:15. The guy was waiting at the door with my order. Turns out the restaurant closes at 8, but he waited for me. Outstanding service like that deserves a reward ... like a nice mention on chowhound.
