Destin, 30-A, DeFuniak Springs and Apalachicola -good eats.

In Destin we ate at the Harbor docks- We've eaten here several times. Always crowded we enjoyed a table outside overlooking tne harbor. My husband enjoyed his grouper and fries. I tried the thai shrimp stirfry and spring rolls. The stirfry was a little bland but the spring rolls were tasty with the accompanying sweet hot sauce.
Another day we drove to DeFuniak to see the old mansions around the lake. We stopped at "the Busy Bee" for lunch. I had a well prepared cobb salad-very fresh and tasty. My husband had a delicious blackened chicken wrap. We would like to go back for dinner some time. There is a chef who comes and prepares that--not sure of the hours.
We ate at The Smiling Fish on 30-A. For lunch you order at the counter and they bring it to you. I had the red curry with Salmon, the special of the day, but it lacked any real oomph. My husband thought his grouper sandwich was very tasty.
For dinner one night we ate at the Red Bar. We really enjoyed the music and the beer. If you are in the area it is alot of fun. The food can be realy good too. The menu at dinner is limited but good mashed potatoes, the best crab cakes on weekends and very yummy salad dressing. The salad comes on the plate with the rest of the food which is a little annoying when the plate is very hot.
Another night we ate at Yianni's Seagrove Grille. It is sort of Mediterranean. We had around ten at this dinner. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Their salads were very pretty and good to eat too. The only criticism was that the steaks we ordered were extremely small seemed less that 4 oz. Maybe they should list the sizes and charge accordingly--not enough for the men.
We drove to Carabelle to eat at Julia Mae's Seafood but it had been torn down to build condos. We drove back to Apalach and saw the Owl Cafe. I remebered reading about it so we decided to give a try. It was great. My husband ordered the chile which came with a salad, flour tortillas and home made bread. I had oyster sandwich. We so enjoyed all! We didn't have room for dessert but we got a piece of chocolate mousse cake to go. My husband picked out and I thought it would be sort of the mundane. We tucked it in the cooler and after dinner at home I remebered --the cake! It was the most delicious chocolate dessert that I have had in along time--true deep chocolate taste but very light. Very friendly and helpful service as well. Can't wait to go back.
