It seems like I haven't seen much dessert talk lately.

Anyone had anything memorable? Unusual? Disappointing?

When you go out, do you go for the familiar, comfort-food desserts, or do you enjoy trying something new and different?

Is there any ingredient that is the kiss of death in a dessert?

As for me, I wish there were more unusual combinations in desserts. There are so many boring desserts out there.

Had a nice 'pre-dessert' in S.F. recently, coconut sorbet topped with kaffir lime granite in mango broth. Simple, but very refreshing (liked the use of kaffir lime). Disappointing chocolate mole cake at Deux Tamales in Seattle. I guess I wanted it to be spicier. A few months ago I really enjoyed the chocolate rosemary doughnut at Kaspar's. Accompanying hazelnut cream could have been nuttier, but the balance of chocolate and rosemary was just right.

Szechuan pepper? Herbs? Squid ink? Anyone?
