...you order another one right after eating it. Yes, I'm not ashamed to admit that this is exactly what my friend and I did last night at Opus.
We ordered the apple shortcake with chai ice cream, as well as the chocolate torte. Both were excellent, but the apple shortcake was the stuff that dreams are made of: a WARM, buttery and flakey shortcake, braised apple slices that still had a good texture, a dollop of fresh whipped cream and a perfect little scoop of chai ice cream. The flavor combination was, dare I say it, perfect. So we polished off both desserts, and we each knew what the other was thinking but I didn't want to be the one to bring it up. "Uh...I could eat another one of those...could you?" my friend asked, pointing at the licked-clean plate that once served the apple shortcake. "Well, if YOU want to, I'm sure I could eat more," I stammered.
So, we threw all potential embarassment to the wind and ordered another shortcake. And you know what? I didn't even care about looking like a gluttonous pig. Because it was THAT good.
Kudos to whoever the pastry chef is at Opus for that awe-inspiring dessert.
(I should note that we sat at the bar and shared a baco (wow), calamari (good) and the hamachi tartar (excellent) and therefore justified ordering three desserts because really we just split a few things, right?).
