Earlier this year, my boyfriend came back from travelling across China. He still gets a glazed-over look in his eyes when he describes the food he ate in Xinjiang (Western China) Supposedly unbelievable lamb kebabs, spiced in a way he couldn't figure out, and some kind of delicious pulled noodles. We figure since NYC has everything else under the sun, there HAS to be SOMETHING approximating this kind of food...the thing is, Uigurs are not Han Chinese, they are an ethnic minority in W. China descended from Turks. So, not surprisingly, we've had no luck in any of the Chinatowns.
Does this sound at all familiar to anyone?? Any hints would be greatly appreciated - I really want to try this stuff too!!
