Desperately seeking salmon (PDX)

jrls | Apr 9, 200312:33 AM

Hello fellow Portlanders. I've got quite the dilemma, and I'm looking for any help you can offer. Here's the story: my parents, total Manhattan food snobs, will be in town next weekend for Passover dinner at my house. The night after, the plan is that we will all go out together for a nice meal. Now, my parents are always singularly unimpressed by foofy menus with ingredients like braised chard, or yam, leek and cheddar enchiladas -- so any place like that is out. What my Dad really wants is a nice plate of wild salmon, simply prepared and local oysters to start.

I know what you are all going to say: take him to Jake's. But we tried that last time, and he informed the waiter that in his opinion, the salmon tasted farm-raised, and not fresh like the salmon he buys at Balducci's. (He's a bit of a pain in restaurants, quite honestly).

My brother wants the Ringside, but that's only because he's always up for a slab of beef. I wanted Higgins, but I checked their menu and they only have salmon in a risotto right now. We did have success when we took them to the Heathman once before, but I'd rather not repeat unless we're desperate.

Any suggestions? Help will be much appreciated!
