Went to Derek's in Pasadena last night. Was quite surprised by the prices, which are on par with Spago. My husband had a lovely cauliflower soup to start. But there wasn't a heck of a lot of it. Do they really need to stint on a vegetable soup? I had the duck as my entree. The flavor was good, not great. And even with a steak knife, the table shook when I cut it. I probably should have sent it back. Overcooked. Other entree we ordered was a simple steamed wild salmon filet in a beurre blanc sauce. It was delicious. But at $32 (I think) it better be. In sum, the space is quite lovely, vaguely romantic. But I won't rush back. For that kind of money, I rather go to Shiro in Pasadena. Or Burger Continental 2 or 3 times!
