depot catered event

Yesterday I attended an event in Torrance that was catered by the Depot restaurant's head chef, Michael Schafer. I have been looking forward to sampling his food for a while now and am sorry to report that the best thing I had to eat were some beef chimichanga's served as an appetizer. If I hadn't had a fair share of appetizers I really would have been in trouble.
Good stuff:
salmon and ricotta wontons. Light, flaky and great flavor
Beef Chimichangas: good quality meat and cheese, lightly fried and crunchy.
Tomatoes with Gorgonzola and cream. Hearty tomatoes with crumbled gorgonzola. There's brilliance in simplicty

Average stuff:
Pumpkin Corn Soup- This was very unique and it had good consistency but even with that, it wasn't really great.

Bad Stuff:
Shrimp Balls- Mysteriously missing shrimp...strange texture.
Tri-tip- Wow was this undercooked, not even slightly tender and kind of flavorless.
BBQ Chicken- It's hard to mess up bbq chicken but the spices he used made it nearly unedible for me. Many around concurred.
Red beans and Rice- Again, I don't know how a person can mess this one up but he included vegetables and it threw off the entire taste. This dish was almost sweet in flavor. Not what I was expecting.

By the time I was done, I didn't have the heart to try desert. Has anyone had a good experience at Depot?
