Is Demeyere Atlantis stockpot worth the price?

Hi all,

It's only recently that I started to geek out on cookware, after my supposed 5-quart dutch oven started showing a bare metal surface under the overall black coating. Only then I noticed the brand was Calphalon, and I still don't remember how I came to have this pot, and in what condition it was when I first started using it. In any case, I started searching online for some equivalent of this dutch oven, and I decided I needed something without a coating and something deeper for making the occasional soups, chilis and stews. Around this time I was also watching Alton Brown's Good Eats, and it inspired me to start doing more of my own cooking. As I ventured deep into the world of cookware, I was fascinated by all these metal vessels in various stages of cladding and layering. I was intrigued by the effort that companies put into engineering these beautiful pieces, and the analysis and comparison of metallurgy & thermodynamics of these pieces in forums like the present one, which I joined only a couple days ago.

After my search, I did end up buying an 8-quart stockpot, a 2.5-quart shallow saute pan, and a 10" frying pan from Calphalon's Tri-ply range. Of course, in the process, I learned of All-Clad and Demeyere and Mauviel and other brands out there. It appears to me that Demeyere either has some really good engineering or really good sales pitch on their website. I'm still obsessed with Demeyere although I'm sure I won't spend upwards of $300 on a pot.... or maybe I'll somehow convince myself. Last week I drove all the way across town to the only SLT store that had Demeyere on display.

My question is, how good is the Atlantis stockpot compared to a stockpot that is fully clad? The SS thickness on the sides is pretty thin compared to a fully clad one, although I'm intrigued by their info on the base (7 layers with silver, copper and "Tripl-induc"). Does anyone have experience with an Atlantis stockpot vs a fully-clad stockpot to say which one is better? Also, I would appreciate some thickness numbers. (I wanted to measure it myself in the store but they didn't have calipers.) Thanks!
