I want to put in a plug for Blue Angel, a new French-Thai restaurant that opened in my neighborhood about a month ago and is struggling to build a clientele. It's on Broadway, between LaSalle and Tiemann Place, in Morningside Heights.

I've been twice and have been blown away by the quality of the food. So far I and my dinner companions have tried the Pad Thai, spinach pasta in a peanut sauce with grilled chicken strips, tuna steak and a calamari cake appetizer. They were all mouth-watering. Each time, we've also been brought another savory tidbit courtesy of the chef.

The portions are substantial, so on my second visit I skipped the appetizer to make room for dessert. They have a pastry chef on the premises. I had a delectable three-chocolate mousse pyramid.

The restaurant has no liquor license so far and encourages you to bring your own wine/beer. Entrees are $11-$20.
