Delicious Dilemmas

My girlfriend has agreed to move in with me. Such a step of exceptional bravery and tolerance, demands an equally exceptional “Thank You”. So Paris it is, and in true push-the-bateau out style.

But where for dinner?

Whilst I understand that some of the most exciting cooking at the moment may be in the new wave gastro-bistros, this occasion has to be the multi-Michelin grand set piece. So the dilemma is which one?

If I were choosing purely for the food, I might look towards L’Arpege or Guy Savoy. On the other hand, part of me also wants to offer the kind of room that looks like Versailles but without that general sense of understatement. So now it’s Le Cinq or the Bristol catching my attention!

Advice please.

By way of some ground clearing. Top of the list to meet both criteria might have been L’Amboisie but I …erhm…went there with my ex-wife, so probably scores a little poorly on the “tact” front.

Also Le Meurice. I went here once before for lunch (just after it gained its third star) and found both the food (went for the set lunch, rather than a la carte) and the room over-raved about. Perhaps my expectations were too high…

All thoughts appreciated.
