Delicious Brazilian Shrimp! In Ballard!

PAO | Dec 21, 201112:40 PM

Friends and I went to Paratii Craft Bar, a Brazilian bar and restaurant in Ballard.

I know nothing about Brazilian food, but the shrimp bar bite and shrimp entrees we had featured some of the freshest, most perfectly cooked shrimp I've ever had. I had the motapa, a rich mixture of bread, cashews, shrimp broth, dendé oil and coconut milk , Moqueca sauce and
topped with a sauté of shrimp and hearts of palm. Rich is right! I couldn't finish the bread base with sauce--very light in texture--almost foamy, but very rich. Our friends had the vatapa (similar to the motapa without the moqueca sauce) and the shrimp mocqueca, a Bahian dish of bell peppers, onion, coconut milk, and palm oil served with Brazilian rice, and seemed very happy. We also ordered shrimp off the bar bites menu and it was fabulous! My partner had the feijoada, which--after the shrimp the rest of us had--seemed to pale in comparison. Salads were good--nice fresh greens. In lieu of a salad, the kitchen provided one of our friends cooked collard greens, which she raved about. For dessert, the baklava (in a Brazilian place?) was pedestrian but the pave (similar to tiramisu) was excellent.
