Must you really defrost shrimps?

Hi there,

Often I find myself thinking about tossing a few shrimp into a pot of soup at the end of cooking, just to up the protein. I dont expect it to be fantastic shrimps but with small shrimp i never really notice too much if they are a tad overcooked.

Granted, I am fully aware shrimp take no time to defrost under running water. However, technically is there any danger or food safety issue with in throwing frozen shrimp (wild 60/70 pound shrimp, without shell) in a soup. And if this is fine, would you bring the soup to a rolling boil before tossing the shrimp in or just add them to a pot of simmering liquid?
