Defonte's Sandwich Shop, Brooklyn (You gotta love it)

Tom K. | Dec 14, 200110:16 PM

I'm sure many of you are familiar with this place but for those who are not...
Defonte's is in Red Hook, at 379 Columbia St. (on the south side of Hamilton Ave). It is the finest sandwich shop I've ever been to. It's been there for about 50 years or more. I started going there about 30 years ago and at the time, they had to contract with two bakeries to supply enough bread for their daily business. I left NY over 25 years ago but everytime I visit Brooklyn, Defonte's delivers the same quality and it is still run by the founding family. They have every imaginable hero, great fish items on Friday etc.
No seating though. You should drive there, "grab" a sandwich and a drink, and then drive to a scenic spot to enjoy it.
Trust me, when it comes to sandwiches, Defonte's is a find in Brooklyn.
MMMMM. I think I'd weigh about 500 pounds if I still lived in NY. Food food food.
