Deep Fried Taro (Turnip/Rice?) Cake in Flushing?

Went by Home Village, one of the storefronts at street level at the 41-28 Main St. food court building where I had a large, deep fried version of the turnip cake you get at dimsum or the taro or rice cakes you get in Vietnamese restaurants. It was large and triangular in shape--like half a grilled cheese sandwich cut diagonally, with a crust. Not having seen such presentation before, and given that the 41-28 food court consists of Sichuan and other non-Cantonese regional styles, I'm wondering about the origins of this item. Anybody know?
