Dedo-thumbs up (again)

After reading almost unnanimous words of praise for this little spot in Bay Village, my companion & I decided to try it out Sat night.

There are basically two rooms when you enter the restaurant; the first is the bar/lounge area; the second the 'dining room'...The bar/lounge area is nice enough, certainly more warm and inviting than the dining room, which isn't that memorable, one way or another. But that's ok with me, as I enjoy a casual bite at the bar, in fact will almost always sit at the bar when given a choice, so that's what we did.

You can order from the bar menu and/or the regular menu at the menu has smaller bites such as burgers, salads, etc. Regular menu has such selections as hand made gnocchi, roasted chicken, risotto, etc.

We enjoyed a glass each of Pinot Noir...and ordered off the bar menu. An order of mac and cheese and a roasted artichoke salad, both very delicious. Mac n cheese was very rich, with morels, sweet peas, and pancetta, served in a cup filled to the brim. Roasted artichoke salad came with chunks of very fresh mozzerella, thinly sliced red peppers, and 'air-dried beef'- basically very thin strips of a sort of salty beef which added a nice contrast to the salad. Interestingly enough, when we received the salad, the beef was missing; the bartender quickly returned the salad to the kitchen..and proceeded to give us both a complimentary pour of the pinot.

All in all, service was excellent; she was extremely attentive. Everything was very reasonably priced; the mac and cheese was around $10, the salad somewhere in that same range. Not sure what the wine went for, by the glass.

I found the overall vibe to be very friendly, warm and inviting. The menu was simple yet imaginative. The bartenders (as well as those dining and drinking at the bar) were all very friendly.

I hope this place survives, I have to admit I'm feeling a little nervous that it may not. On a Saturday night the dining room was maybe 1/4 full; the bar was not too busy when we walked in around 8, it picked up over the next hour and certainly was doing a little better...but not busy on a Sat night usually isn't such a good thing.

I'm definitely heading back. Excellent spots. One of my favorites in a long time...
