I went to Luna Park in Union Square after work last night with some friends. Because we don't care to mill about, and weren't looking for a singles scene, we asked for a table and were told we could only sit if we each ordered food. It seemed a small enough price to pay to have a nice table outside on a beautiful evening.
I ordered the softshell crab appetizer, as did one of my friends. The waitress said it was A softshell, which at $12 seemed a bit steep, but again we were just happy to be seated at a table. My other friend was starving and ordered the Tuscan steak. ($28). I was both surprised and delighted when the food arrived. The softshell crab was actually a pair of crabs, lightly battered, sitting on a bed of fresh peas, fava beans and some sort of sprouts, dressed in a lemony pesto. They were far more delicious than I had anticipated, and the pea/fava mixture seemed to have come straight from the Green Market. My friend's steak actually looked very tasty and perfectly cooked. She said it didn't quite compare to Keen's, where she'd been earlier in the week, but that it was darn good food for that setting. I'm tempted to go back for a full meal, though preferably not on a Friday night. Wondering if anyone else has had a positive experience there this summer?
