I'm from LA and post there reasonably often. Over the last 6 months, family and business have brought me to Beaverton and my local food highlight both times was this non-Portland place, decarli, bearing the name of the owner and head chef.
If you are looking for:
1) pastas made fresh daily,
2) good appetizers and bar (rotating menu of bruschetta's) and a
3) changing menu using what's good at the moment.

I wanted to "go light" one night so I ordered a bruschetta only to find I got 3 all kinds in one order. a) banana fingerling potatoes with pine nuts, parsley and olive oil. b) chicken liver mousse (old school) with turnip pickles (from your Middle Eastern restaurant) and c) pear, tellegio and proscuitto. I tried a "fig martini" with it. Had a pasta special as my main course with a glass of Oregon Pinot Noir and an expresso before I left. So I had a variety of items that I definitely could not recreate at home without breaking my wallet.
Everybody should be able to find something they like there., but I would focus in on the pasta's and the specials. Enjoy.
