Make Dec 25th to 31st a culinary success!

My mother and sister are visiting Vancouver for the Christmas week (25th-31st) and I'd love to pick your collective brains on where to eat. We're looking for perhaps 4 or 5 choices, reasonably affordable, and restaurants that highlight the strengths of Vancouver's dining out scene.

My family is from Montreal so we'd like to avoid French, Greek, Italian, etc. I'm thinking: a Japanese/ramen noodle type restaurant, an Indian restaurant, a seafood restaurant (dungeness crabs?), perhaps Mongolian, Thai, or Malaysian? Something downtown-ish would be preferable. We're not too concerned about fanciness - we just want good food at reasonable prices.

I'm going to keep searching the board, but I'd loveto pick up a few suggestions.

Thanks!
