Deborah report

Eager to Eat | May 6, 2005 12:31 PM

On the recommendation of another hound, I checked out Deborah on Carmine (between Bedford and Bleecker) last night. It was excellent! I have no idea why I haven't heard more about this place, and I certainly want to sing its praises to share with all of you.

As an overall observation, all of the portions at Deborah are HUGE, so keep that in mind. This includes our wine glasses! We started with the shrimp and avocado salad - the taste was excellent, although the greens in the salad (forget what they were) were slightly hard to manage. It was $17, and plenty for us to share.

For mains, I had the cajun spiced tilapia, while my friend had the red snapper fish tacos. Both were spiced very well, and, as mentioned above, HUGE in size! My tilapia was quite spicy, but the cous cous that it came with somewhat toned down the spice. It also came with spinach and jalapeno cornbread fritters. I could only manage to eat one of the two pieces of fish, but I wanted to eat more!

My friend had the red snapper fish tacos. They came in a fried hard taco shell with some frisee, fish, salsa and chipotle on the side. There was also a side of mashed potatoes. Her entree was a bit difficult/messy to eat, so she ended up digging the filling out of the tacos. But, it was excellent too! we both wanted to eat more but simply could not.

As a result, we didn't get a chance to try dessert. However, all of their desserts looked yummy - next time for sure!

Hope this helps!
