A recent post on salad bar safety reminded me of an odd habit that I've noticed consistently at Dunkin' Donuts shops and occasionally at other bakeries. The employees use a small sheet of tissue paper to grab the donuts as they transfer them from the shelf to your bag. So far, so good. Then they toss the tissue paper in the bag on top of your donuts! Yuck! Usually, the next step is to handle your money as you pay, and then to repeat the same procedure with the next customer. It finally occurred to me that the point of the paper must be to keep the employees hands clean, rather than to keep your pastries clean... but why not throw the tissue paper away rather than put it in the bag?
