Ok, maybe I've been naive or just ignorant all this time (not out of the question by any means).
But today, at the market, the fish counter guy (wouldn't call him a "fish monger" for fear of insulting all those who really *are* fish mongers by trade), said that the salmon they had on sale was caught "dead" which was why it was so cheap.
Ok, silly me.
I've always thought that fish were generally -- always? -- caught alive. No? Is that wrong?
What other fish is caught dead and then sold at market?
(By the way, is that even the right word? "Caught"? Isn't it more like "found" or "scooped up"?)
