De-salting the ham?

I love a big sliced honey ham, but I cringe when I see the daily sodium level per serving is 36%! Seems like there should be some scientifically proven way to soak it, in whole or in slices, in plain water or in some other solution, in order to reduce the sodium level?

And yes, I did read the ginger ale marinade thing online but wondered to what degree it is effective, etc.

We need to move the needle a LONG way from that 36%!!!
