De Cecco Fusilli Bucati cooking time?

The first time I cooked the De Cecco brand Fusilli Bucati -- that long twisty pasta, shaped liked a telephone cord -- I followed the box directions exactly (12 minutes), and the pasta came out WAY soft and overcooked. So the second time I checked at about 8 minutes, and still, the pasta was a little overdone -- just a bit past al dente this time.

I guess I'm just curious as to whether others have noticed this with this particular brand/shape of pasta. Is the cooking time printed on the box a mistake? Or is there something else going on here? Four or five minutes off seems more than what would be caused by variations in pot size / amount of water / power of flame.

FWIW, I don't typically have trouble cooking a basic pasta. =)
