Yonny's is an authentic restaurant featuring the cuisine of the Republic of Georgia. Georgia is a small country that gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. It is bordered by Russia to the north, Armenia to the South and Azerbaijan to the southeast.
The meal will be served family style and will feature the following dishes:
Georgian salads not on the usual dinner menu being made by the chef especially for us.
--Eggplant Adgo: grilled vegetables blended with tomato and cucumbers
--Imeruli: sauteed tuna with walnut white wine sauce
--Hinkali: Georgian dumplings filled with meat and herbs (my personal favorite)
--Lobio: kidney beans sauteed with onions, walnuts, vinegar and cilantro
--Acharuli: mixed cheese, butter, eggs, in Georgian bread
--Georgian corn bread
--Doshi: grilled tuna steak with white wine cilantro sauce and cous cous
--Mcvadi: grilled marinated pork tenderloin with plum sauce, onion and roasted potato
--Nataly: sauteed beef sirloin with onions and cous cous
--Chkmeruli: grilled marinated cornish game hen with potato
--Chakapuli: sauteed lamb smothered in creamy sauce
One glass of Georgian wine per person
Also, you are welcome and encouraged to bring your own wine, beer or spirits.
Yonny's only serves one dessert: tiramisu. Though not specifically Georgian, it is very good. If you would like to try the tiramisu and a cup of coffee, it will be an extra $5 per person.
A note about the DDC: The DDC is made up of many people from various walks of life. DDC attendees are of all ages, all backgrounds and from all parts of the Philadelphia (and beyond) area. Many come alone, while others come with significant others or friends. There is no reason why anyone should feel intimidated about attending. The group is very friendly and welcoming of all. If you've ever wanted to put a face with a chowhounder, now is your chance.
If you would like to attend, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org on or before Sunday, May 18. Please put "DDC" as your subject heading. Because Yonny's is small, only the first 40 people can be accommodated. Therefore, it is important to RSVP as soon as possible.
Note: I know that I said earlier this week that the dinner was going to be on Tuesday, May 21. It was changed because several people had Election Day conflicts. I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.
