New in DC.....Bis

We ate at Bis last week and enjoyed it very much.
From the owners of Vidalia, Bis is a hip
French/American bistro with excellent food--
sweetbreads, mussels, steak frites, etc., a nice all-
French wine list with some good selections in the high
teens and low $20 range, and a snazzy decor in the new
George Hotel, close to Union Station on F Street.

Highly recommended.

I have not eaten at Bis yet, but I LOVE Vidalia and
wanted to put in yet another good word for it! I'm from
DC (now living in Brooklyn but DC is always "home" -
don't know what that says about me psychologically) and
I just returned from the nation's capital. The breads
they serve are delicious, and the decor and
Pottery Barn-type dishes are pleasantly cheery.

Actually, I am not a big fan of Vidalia...I find many
of the dishes on the "sweet" side--but that is a
question of personal taste. (I don't like most of the
recipes in the Silver Palate for that reason.)

However, my favorite restaurant in DC (perhaps in the
world) is Kinkead's; have you eaten there?

Hope you get to Bis before long.

There was spinach involved, and frizzled leeks, too.
        Very tasty, as I recall.

I was just in DC in the beginning of December. Was
really glad I managed to eat at bis. I'm in full
agreement with Jim Zurer -- I liked the food a lot.
New kitchen just needs a little more time to find its
        groove.

I'm with you on Vidalia. Love it. I never leave DC
without eating a meal at Vidalia.
