My husband and I were in Washington from June 30th thur the 4th. After searching this board, and others, we made reservations at several restaurants. Friday night we ate at Corduroy. I had the Halibut with lemon sauce and a potato leek salad. The halibut was perfectly prepared. My husband had Salmon which was also delicious. We both had salad, mine baby greens, his micro greens, which were extremely generous. Service excellent.
Saturday night- Komi- what can I say which hasn't been said on this board- Wow! Komi was wonderful. The first course was at least seven small tasting. The roasted date was out of this world. I had the lamb, my husband the tuna. Everything was excellent. The service was fun and attentive. The highlight of our dining in D.C.
Sunday night we met my sister and brother-in-law at Kinkead's. We probably would not have chosen this restaurant on our own, but went with their reccommendation. We were very disappointed. I had the house speciality, the Salmon. My husband had Mahi Mahi, which was a daily special. Both were overcooked. The flavor combinations were underwhelming. We had a gnoochi appetizer which was very oily. Service was average.
Monday night we headed to Zaytinya. We were very pleased with this choice. Loved the goat cheese wrapped in grape leaves. We also liked the mussels in tomato broth with feta and the crab cakes. My husband had the Fattoush salad which he raved about.
Tuesday the 4th we had no specific plans. Our criteria was casual and close to our hotel. We ended up in the Red Sage Border Cafe. Huge disappointed. My husband had the chicken enchiladas which were passable. I had the adoba chicken quesadillas which were not very good. Would not recommend this restuarant.
The other places we ate were the Woodley Cafe and Old Ebbitt Grill. Both for breakfast. Both were ok, but nothing more. We also had lunch at Gordon Biersch. My husband enjoyed the beer. The food was fine for lunch fare.
Thanks for all the great recommemdations on this board. We enjoyed eating our way through D.C.
