Just a quick report on a couple of outstanding eats I had while in your lovely area.

First - a completely life affirming taqueria in Carpenteria, next to a 7-11, Rincon Alteno. Holy Moley, this place had my head spinning, I couldn't believe it. Four of the tacos were each as good as the other other: pastor, cabezas, tripas, carnitas. The carnitas were amazingly rich. If you think you don't like tripe, or would like to try it for the first time, this is definitely the place to go. The best tripe I've ever had. Tacos de lengua were also very good. I ate there for both lunch and dinner; I simply had to return.

Unfortunately, I did not get to Super Rica the next day because I didn't want to overload my family, and maybe I wanted a change myself. I hit the Minnow in the Harbor and got a CCT sandwich: fresh slices of chili peppers, jack and cheddar cheeses, and sliced tomato on grilled sourdough. This was a terrific sandwich served with a nice red cabbage slaw. I could never get something like this back East. Swordfish tacos are another good order, but the fish and chips are ordinary.

I know that folks are very proud of their local ice cream, but I can't report that I found anything special about McConnell's.

Anyway, if you find yourself in Carpenteria, then please search out Rincon Alteno and please let me know what you think.
