DC chowhound coming to NY for a couple of days...

I'm always intimidated by the prospect of chowhounding in NY- just too much opportunity- I'm used to the terrible dining scene of DC, so usually just rely on recommendations from friends and end up eating at the same old places when in NY. Looking for a somewhat mid-casual (a place I can go straight from work, to train to hotel without getting all dressed up preferably and not feeling like a loser in business casual) place for a late dinner on Thurs night. Staying at the W on Lex b/t 49 and 50. Close would be great. Really not too particular about cuisine, but not sushi because I'm pregnant and that would be torture having to limit myself. Also, a great place for lunch on Sat... I always end up going to Serendipity mostly for the frozen hot chocolate but never am very impressed with the food. Anything close to that side of the park (close to Bloomingdales, I think) that I could have a great lunch before heading to Serendipity for dessert? Always open to other suggestions as well, nothing is set in stone.
