Nine Days in (and around) Merida

erica | Nov 15, 201912:49 PM     28

I rented a house in Merida for 9 nights in early January. Now that the time has come to look at airline tickets, I am wondering if this is too long a time to stay in the city, and whether or not I should cut back the trip (temps in mid-80s daytime are not so appealing to me for exploring on foot) or think about renting a car and taking day trips or overnights. I've been to the main ruins of Yucatan (been to Mexico many, many times) but might like to see a few cenotes if I can swim there. Any interesting spots within an hour or two? Any fish restaurants in Progreso or elsewhere that are worth the drive?

But the main point of this thread is, of course, where to eat. I'd appreciate any recent info on restaurants or food stalls. My Spanish is very good and no problem eating on the street, or taking out food to eat at the house. Also, I read on another thread that there are good Italian places, which would make my partner happy as he is not a fan of Mexican food (Thank you, J, for even going along on this trip!)

Does anyone know of any local food blogs, in Spanish or English?

Thank you!
